Palaut Khrau are rare to find as they are now rarely made but the older ones do pop up from time to time. It is in silver too and is one that is best worn round the neck as the sound is gentle.

Some of these get noisy and rule your life but there is the same great forewarning with the gentler pieces.

A Palaut Khrau is a ball of metal that has a ball of special metal inside that consists of a mix of gold, mercury, bronze, lead, steel, and many other metals, depending on the maker (Palaut is the Thai name for Mercury). Having held quite a few, the inside ball has to roll around inside the outside sphere, for the feeling to work properly when the devotee is walking or moving. The action of these is very strong, akin to a strong Takrut and take a few days to get used to.

These items are mostly for protection and have an element of forewarning from the sound they make, which I am sure comes sometimes with no physical movement of the ball. Old ones are often found in the ground of temples or ancient market areas and they are decidedly odd to wear. I have one and enjoy the way they pull me into Samathi, bringing my attention to every physical movement which creates a different perspective for those close to you. When I wear this people treat me in a different way because they make me behanve differently.

Few people make these now, and these old ones can be very expensive depending on the sound it makes and the source. This one is noisy and nice.

Measures a nudge over 1.6".

A superb piece of old Lanna magic.
