A Superb Tooth Relic from an Arahant monk

This is a type of relic that is now rarely seen as there are now few monks of legend (maybe with the exception of Kruba Boonchum). The disciples of the Arahant monks of the great generation of magician monks used to keep their teeth (either carved or not), their hair, tears, chewed betel, robe, hair bone and even their flesh to be worn. If their remains produced Phra Thaat, they had to be kept on the altar only, although those were generally held by their Wat.

This tooth was cased in the late 1970's/early 1980's and is an exceptional example of a Buddhist relic. This came from a highly respected exceptional monk, and was kept and loved till the devotee passed on too. It is more than likely a high monk from an urban area as the devotee could afford to have it cased, but there seems little understanding of these things and how important they are now.

Arahant monks have exceptional Samathi, and can help the bearer in their pursuit of it. It also has a cooling power and the ability to calm the mind along with exceptional levels of Metta Mahaniyom, bringing support from the people close by that leads it to being great for business success.

The carved tooth is currently being cased by Ajarn Apichai, and I just added a photo from a book on Lanna magic of other relic tooth Buddhas.

This relic measures 1.3" in a gold plated silver case and needs praising as a high deity, one level below the Buddha.

This is one of my favourite amulet types, and I wear a carved tooth from Kruba Wong.

  • Important relics include any part of the monk's body, but his hair, teeth, saliva and tears are what are most sought after. It is an old practice, and these items should be valued above all others to get us through the coming times. These work for us and we do not intrude on that process, they are there to help, as monks are in life.
